The cannabis industry is one of the fastest growing in the world. There is global excitement as new opportunities develop throughout the U.S., Canada, and abroad. In particular, the U.S. cannabis market has seen new states legalize cannabis in recent years, with both therapeutic and medical programs. With more states launching programs, there is strong and growing contingent that believes federal legalization is an eventual reality, sooner than later.
Momentum from several major developments in 2018, including the inclusion of industrial hemp in the new farm bill and Canada’s nationwide legalization, and FDA approval of the Epilepsy treatment Epidiolex are major factors in the explosive growth of the industry.
However, with the explosive growth in the industry, one major statistic stands out among the rest- Black entrepreneurs account for less than 1% ownership of the total dispensaries currently in the U.S. Many small businesses have been disenfranchised from the beginning. However, there are still many opportunities and Black businesses that are having success in the industry globally.
Timeless executive Marques Colston will be leading a session at the 27th Annual National Black Chamber of Commerce Conference (NBCC). The panel discussion, Entrepreneurs in the Cannabis Industry, is focused on highlighting the wave of entrepreneurship and innovation of black owned businesses in the cannabis industry. “We want to spark a dialogue that highlights opportunity and collaboration for minority businesses,” said Colston on the importance of the discussion. “There are strong entrepreneurs on the sidelines, waiting for the right access point into the industry.”
Timeless Herbal Care and the National Black Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) share a commitment in exploring opportunities for black and minority entrepreneurs in the cannabis industry. “One of the biggest mistakes people make is failing to see the Power of CBD for health and wealth,” said Courtney Betty, CEO of Timeless Herbal Care.
